IHRA

Pegasus Bay Drag Racing has now joined with IHRA who will become its governing body for affiliation.

Although there has been much media speculation, rumor and innuendo around the change of affiliation PBDRC has researched the subject and taken the information back to its current members, who, in near total, agreed to change to IHRA.

Please note that PBDRC is not a Board (as are FRAM), nor is it a private business (as is Taupo) but a club that is the collective decision of its members.

Full and frank discussions have taken place with both FRAM and Taupo so that we can provide uniformity between the 3 tracks so that what you do at PBDRC will cross over should you decide to travel.

A racing license is necessary for cars under 11 seconds, application forms are available on line www/ihra.com at present the cost is approx US$60.00, the dollar exchange rate making it very favorable at present.  If you wish, we, the PBDRC can facilitate the application for you at a cost of NZ$100.00.

PBDRC Membership

Membership is now open for the club for the 2011/2012 season.  Membership Application will go before the committee for approval.

Full membership  - $80.00 giving full benefits and voting rights, free gate entry to all meetings, production of your membership card gives you an extensive number of business offering discounts, direct access to the supply of NOS, we are looking into the supply of AV gas.  An access card will be given to each member.

We are looking at other classes of membership for the coming year, including a NZHRA membership class. We have applied to re-join the New Zealand Hot Rod Assn (NZHRA) and our application is currently under consideration. We propose to have two categories and fee structures, one for those within our region, which will include our season gate pass, and an out of region membership that will not have a gate pass, but will be a lower cost. Once our NZHRA application has been processed, we will confirm the deal, and the benefits of this class of membership.

We are also looking at a form of Honorary/social Member –which will have minimal cost but will give the member the season gate card but does not give voting rights. More on this next month

Travelling racers – this will be a card given to racers who covering in excess of 100km to race, production of this card will get them free gate entry. This is for the benefit of the driver and not his crew.

 PBDRC AGM DATE

Race Entry Fee prices for the coming season

The prices are based on the following figures; special meetings will attract higher prices, to be announced as applicable.

Motor bike            $45.00 *
Comp car             $55.00 *
Street car             $45.00 *

For all cars racing over 10.99 seconds you do not need a race license, the good news now is you do not need to pay $20.00 day affiliation to New Zealand Drag Racing Association either.

*This fee will reduce a further $10.00 on production of your gate entry ticket.

 PBDRC 2011/2012 Rule Book

As stated the rule book we will be using is a New Zealand book not the American book and will conform to the current systems we are already using.

The book is in the hands of lawyers checking the last few details.  Once completed, this book will be available free on line.  It will be updated as required.  Should you have rule submissions please submit them in writing to PBDRC.

Tech Inspections

Should you need a new inspection done on your cars please ring either Simon or Alan well in advance of a meeting date, remember they too have to organize their time.  PBDRC tech forms become available this week.

As you will see above we have an independent tech inspector, should we have issues that cannot be resolved at Club level then we can call in Paul who will adjudicate and if necessary bring in a team to oversee a fair and equitable ruling.

RACING SEASON FOR 2011/2012

Subject to change in the event of unforeseen earthquakes or repercussions from earthquakes, the problems that plague us most are lack of safety items e.g. ambulance and radio telephones, both of these items were withdrawn into the centre of the city and prevented any racing in the months after the quakes.

Keep in mind that we are doing the best with the dates we have been able to get in conjunction with Canterbury Car Club.  As usual we would like more but as there are more clubs wanting to use the park than dates available we learn to “fit in”.

Winter Series – see below

Twilight Series – Friday nights

We have two dates, 18 November and 16 December.  Further information will be posted as we get nearer to these dates.

Summer Competition Season

23 October – South Island Champs, looking good for a super charged outlaw meeting at the moment, still a work in progress.

19 November – Bike Drags, yes, we are back encouraging ALL bikes to come back racing again.  We have a very strong interest at this early stage.  We have a 40’ container load of bikes coming from Auckland and Hamilton thanks to Scrap Palace, rather than hire a container Scrappy has brought one and painted it in his colours, what dedication.

Waimate street race organizer John Wilson is keen to offer $500.00 prize for the faster ¼ mile wheel stand competition.  Any takers?

We have an arrangement with The Swamp Templeton for an after function, a great chance to meet the racers from out of town, renew acquaintances etc.

15 January –  Comp meeting

28/29 January – Southern Nationals/Nitro Sunday Comp meeting -  we have two days booked for this weekend, dependant on numbers attending whether we use both days,

19 Feb – this is the tentative date for 4 & rotor meeting, or it will become another date available for a club competition meeting.

24 March – Kevin McInroe Memorial meeting / comp meeting

14 April – end of season comp meeting.

Pre entry will be available on the web site, we are expecting to retrain you all to use this service as a normal method of entering.

Please down load the entry form and either fax it back to us or send it back in an email.  This means that when you arrive you will go to the shed, offer your name; we will match you to your pre entry form, ask you to check the details, show us your relevant documentation and pay, thank you, have a nice day and don’t break it.

.  (If you have an allocated car number remember to bring that also.)

Optional – send us a really nice photo of your car, crew, sponsors, give us something that we can use to advertise you, give us some details for our announcer screen.  This ensures your sponsors are advertised to the general public and gives us some facts to tell the crowd about your vehicle.  Could also feature you on the web site.

WINTER SERIES

Saturday 23 July & 13 August

RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG

The Winter Series is a great time for tuning and for anyone who just wants to have a go.  All newcomers are welcomed no matter what you drive

Based on the fun we had for the 3 Dec we would like to repeat that.  It was a run what you brung, as long as it has a current WOF and registration.  If you run non street tyres then a tech inspection is needed, refer to our web site www.pbdrc.co.nz for the relevant details.

You must bring a helmet with current certification sticker, fully enclosed shoes, clothes that have long sleeves and long leg cover.  Over flow bottle must be present and empty before going on the track, battery tie downs as well.  These basic safety standards will be adhered to!

This gives you the change to put pedal to the metal on a straight, flat, unbroken road!

Gates are open at 12 noon racing starts 1p.m. onwards, race finish time is light dependant, somewhere around 4.45p.m, plenty of time to collect a dozen speeding tickets.

Entry
$10.00 per person entering the venue

Racing
$45.00 to race for the day, if you remember to present your entry ticket in to the entry booth we will refund $10.00 off your race price, a bonus for the driver.  You will agree that this is a substantial price drop compared to previous events.

Accommodation

If you plan to come to Christchurch to race and do not have accommodation please look for it well in advance.  With a huge percentage of the accommodation out of action and the rest being taken up by the influx of temporary works it is hard to find, contract us and let us source something for you.

4 and Rotor Meeting

Due to the earthquakes and their related problems we are not sure if there will be a 4 and Rotor meeting this coming season, Pegasus Bay Drag Racing Club is talking to Azhar looking for alternatives, watch the  web site for further details

WANTED –

We need to get some our truly awesome race cars out of the garage and onto the track.  If you can help us locate these we would love to hear from you.  Rumor has it that so many cars are being built for racing, can we give you some advertising and follow your adventures as you come out to play.

Alan Ryder’s old rail is being reworked as we speak, look for the red and black colour scheme.  His new rail out of America is currently racing in the north island.

There are rumors that a Chevy Nova is just about ready

Alan Taylor (our scrutineering) has been working on a gasser

There is a new Harley Destroyer in town, lets see if that appears, straight from the horses mouth today – they have had it out on the street and just can’t wait!

--oo00oo-

ALSO WANTED – ANNOUNCER,

We need a really keen person with the gift of the gab who knows all about cars, someone multi talented that speaks Japanese, American, European and Hot Rod.  We have the technology but need someone with a “motor mouth”.  Can you help us or do you know someone who would be interested in sharing his/her knowledge.

--oo00oo-

WANTED, WANTED

Does anyone have any old slicks that we can use for rubberizing the track?  Each time we use at least 4 complete tyres. – urgent.  We have modified our rubberize machine over the off season, works even better now, the more slicks we have the better the prep for the big meeting.

--oo00oo-

WINDOW SIGNS

We are asking that you provide your own window number if you are planning to race with us on a regular basis.  Sizing A4 landscape, you will be issued with a permanent number, category will change according to the meeting you attend and will be written on your window for you.  For your first race you will be issued one, after that we are happy to sell it to you at $5.00.  We are looking for a suitable sponsor for these signs, do you have any contacts that we could approach please.
